The quality management system used by the Alba Translating Company has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the international standards ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015. We successfully completed the process of certification according to international standard ISO 17100:2015 (Translation Services, Requirements for Translation Services) in June 2016. Below is a brief summary of the main quality principles applied by our company.

Company mission: To help ensure competitive growth in the goods and services of provided by our clients, through rendering high quality linguistic services.

1. Focus on needs and expectations of customers.

A. Work on any project begins with identifying and analyzing the client's needs to determine how they can be realistically executed.

B. Our translation project managers focus on long-term cooperation with our clients, in particular, looking for the most effective ways to solve the challenges that they present and suggesting ways our clients could save time or money, or significantly increase their business performance with minimal additional expenditure.

2. Detailed regulation of internal and external communications as well as the exchange of experience and the management of internal knowledge within the company.

A. Assigning one project manager to each client in combination with a transparent scheme for storing and processing both project information and clients' specific requirements, guarantee the seamless working from the client’s point of view in case of staff cover (for example, through illness or vacation). The system of storing and processing information that we use allows any project manager easily to find all relevant information on the features of the client’s projects (glossaries, translation memory files, requirements for document execution).

B. An obligatory system of confirmation after each stage of communication has been achieved (receipt of letter, clear formulation of the task to be undertaken) minimizes any risk of contingency situations.

C. We provide clients with effective feedback, timely processing of any complaints, objective analysis of their cause and putting in place corrective actions aimed at preventing the recurrence of such a situation rather than invoking disciplinary procedures.

D. CPD ensures the high levels of proficiency of our staff through regular training for our translators/editors and project managers.

3. Careful selection of personnel assigned to tasks together with regular quality assurance of their work.

A. Before our staff are able to carry our clients’ work they are required to pass rigorous testing and confirmation of their abilities by completing at least three specifically controlled projects and an introductory course (including familiarization with the applied quality management system).

B. Translating/editing tasks are assigned, taking into account the particular specializations of the staff available.

C. Translators/editors are given individual grades in the translation project management system on the basis of the results of every project they undertake. Each project manager has the opportunity to see the average grade of the staff member in each language combination and refers to this when assigning any given project.

4. Use of modern technology.

A. We use a continuous process of testing, learning and implementing the most modern linguistic technology, including:

- TM tools (SDL Trados Studio 2015, Memsource, MemoQ, Transit, Across, Deja Vu, SDLX);

- translation quality assurance tools (ApSIC Xbench, Verifika).

B. Our translation project management system has been developed to our own design, to store all relevant information on projects, staff, and clients.

C. In 2016 we designed and introduced an application to track the editing and proof-reading time spent on each text («Editor’s Little Helper»). The effectiveness of the work of our editors and proof-readers increased significantly as a result of their use of the application. The quality of our services also benefited. The application is available in the public domain. It can be downloaded here.

5. Privacy.

A. All our staff have signed confidentiality agreements, guaranteeing against their disclosure of any client information.

B. Our company uses certified data storage and security facilities to prevent unauthorized access.
