Translation of Adobe FrameMaker files

Adobe FrameMaker is a document processor designed for writing and editing complex structured documents with XML/DITA support. Adobe FrameMaker allows to achieve consistent formatting and content re-use. Adobe FrameMaker alternatives and competitors include Corel Ventura and LaTeX.

The files prepared using the FrameMaker software have FM format. To share data with other applications, the MIF (Maker Interchange) format is used. MIF is an ASCII-based format designed to be used either by user or by the machine.

Translation directly in Adobe FrameMaker

MIF files can be edited and translated in any text editor. However, when working with MIF files in a text editor, there is a risk to damage the document structure or to leave untranslated text requiring localization, so this method is rarely used in practice.

Translation of Adobe FrameMaker files using CAT tools

MIF format is supported by some of the modern CAT tools like Memsource, MemoQ or SDL Trados Studio.

ALBA Translation Agency has extensive experience of working with MIF files. Our project managers can organize a workflow on each job for our customers in the most optimal and therefore cost-effective manner.
