• Lithuania became the last European country to adopt Christianity only in the 15th century. The Lithuanian pagan religion is called Romuva.
• The capital of Lithuania is Vilnius, the 294 m high Mount Juozapine is the highest point above the sea level and the 973 km long Neman is the longest river in Lithuania.
• The only King of Lithuania over its history was Mindaugas, officially crowned by the Catholic Church in the middle of the 13th century. Modern Lithuanian ideology has given him the status of the founder of the state and a national hero of Lithuania.
• Lithuania was the first Soviet Republic to declare independence from the USSR. On 17 September 1991, Lithuania joined the United Nations and on 1 May 2004, it joined the European Union.
• The small territory of Lithuania is divided into 10 counties and 60 municipalities.
